Mission

Housing is Healthcare

NC Growth & Development Initiative, Inc. (NCGDI) operates at the intersection of affordable housing and veteran wellbeing. We believe that stable, permanent housing is the foundation upon which every other recovery milestone is built.

Based in Winston-Salem, NC, NCGDI develops, acquires, and operates permanent supportive housing paired with wraparound clinical services — creating pathways from homelessness to lasting community integration for veterans across North Carolina.

Our long-term vision: 150–200 units of veteran-focused housing across the region, anchored by the Veterans Village campus and our operational base at Prosperity Commons (1242 W. Academy St., Winston-Salem).

Veterans Village

Permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans on city-owned parcels in Winston-Salem — a landmark development connecting housing with clinical care.

Veterans Village

Winston-Salem, NC · AHD Case 18525 · 0 Salem Crest Lane & 0 Ebert Street

Veterans Village is NCGDI's flagship development: 36 units of permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans, developed on City of Winston-Salem–owned parcels. The project pairs quality housing with on-site clinical services, VA HUD-VASH rental assistance, and evidence-based supportive programs.

Construction is stick-built per architect/builder Burney & Burney's recommendation — ensuring quality, community integration, and long-term durability. The capital stack includes CDBG, HOME, VA GPD, HUD-VASH vouchers, and private philanthropy, with a $500,000 AHD ask representing strong per-unit leverage.
